A survey of painting companies

Be booked before exterior season starts

For Lake Country painting owners. Your busy season is short and every homeowner calls in the same few weeks. When your site is slow and your phone goes to voicemail during a walk-through, the next call on their list picks up.

Card on file, nothing charged for 14 days. Site live on your domain before day 14, or the first month is free.

The lost job

Saturday morning in May. First 70 degree week of the year.

This happens to painting companies every week. Not because the work is bad. Because your painters are on an estimate and nobody is at the phone.

  1. 8:12amA homeowner in Hartland searches "house painters near me" on her phone while she's still in bed. Her deck rail is peeling and she wants two exterior quotes before Monday.
  2. 8:14amShe calls the first painting company that comes up. It rings four times and drops to a voicemail box that hasn't been checked since the last job wrapped.
  3. 8:16amShe calls the second name. He's up a ladder on a job in Oconomowoc, phone in his pocket, and can't hear it over the sprayer.
  4. 8:20amShe fills out the contact form on a third company's site instead. It emails an inbox nobody opens until Sunday night.
  5. 8:23amShe gives up and books a fourth company through a home services app, the one whose profile had the most recent reviews and a text reply in under a minute.
  6. MondayThe first two painters never know they were in the running. The job, plus the two more coats and the shed she mentions once she likes the work, goes to someone else.
Where the calls go

Three places painting companies lose work they already earned.

The season is too short to miss calls in it

Wisconsin gives you roughly May through October to paint exteriors. Every call that goes unanswered in that window is gone for the year, not just the day.

Estimates go cold waiting on a callback

A homeowner comparing quotes moves to whoever answers first. If your reply takes until you're off the ladder, the decision is usually already made.

Your gallery has no recent paint jobs in it

No recent photos, no reviews, no mention of lead-safe work on older homes. A homeowner checking two companies before calling picks the one that looks current.
What gets built during the trial

A site for a painting company owner, page by page.

Built on your own domain, on accounts you own. Leave later and it is yours for $299, one time.

PageWhy it is there
HomeThe pitch, the phone number, and the two or three most recent finished jobs above the fold.
Interior paintingRooms, cabinets, trim. What's included, what a typical room runs, how long it takes.
Exterior paintingSiding, trim, decks. Wisconsin weather windows and how you schedule around them.
Cabinet refinishingIts own page. Homeowners search this separately from full interior jobs and it books at a different price.
Lead-safe work on older homesStates plainly that you're EPA RRP certified for pre-1978 homes, which covers most of Waukesha County's housing stock.
GalleryBefore and after photos sorted by room and by exterior color, the thing homeowners scroll first.
ReviewsEvery review pulled in automatically as they land, not copy pasted once and forgotten.
Get a quoteOne form, three questions, a photo upload. Answered by text within minutes, not a contact-us black hole.

Running from day 10

  • Missed-call text-back

You're on a ladder or in someone's living room. A call you can't take gets a text back in under a minute so the homeowner doesn't hang up and dial the next company.

  • Instant quote reply

Someone fills out the quote form at 9pm. They get a reply that night, not Monday, so they're not still comparing when you finally see it.

  • Review requests after every job

The day you finish a job, the homeowner gets a text asking for a review while the fresh paint smell is still in the room, not three weeks later when they've forgotten.

  • Google Business Profile kept accurate

Hours, service area, photos of recent work, all checked and corrected every month so the profile a homeowner clicks on actually matches what you do.

What Grow adds, $297/mo

  • Quote follow-up: a nudge to homeowners who got an estimate and went quiet
  • One new local page a month (a town, a service, a color trend, whatever's searched)
  • Facebook ad templates loaded and ready before exterior season starts
  • A monthly report in plain numbers: calls, quotes, jobs, reviews
Two plans, one price sheet

No call to find out the price.

  2. Days 1 to 10I build the site on your own domain and tune your Google profile. You see it as it comes together.
  3. Day 10Missed-call text-back, instant form reply, and review requests switch on. Your phone starts working while you work.
  4. Day 15First charge, or cancel from your account with no call. Keep the site for $299 if you leave later.
The painting calendar
May to October: exterior season
Every homeowner with a peeling deck or faded siding calls in the same stretch of good weather. The site and the missed-call text-back matter most right here, because a slow reply in June has nowhere to hide behind a quiet season.
November to April: interior season
Cabinet refinishing, trim, whole rooms. The slower months are when reviews from summer exterior jobs pay off, since a homeowner picking an interior painter checks recent work either way.
Pre-1978 homes: lead-safe work
Most of Waukesha County's housing stock predates the 1978 federal ban on residential lead paint. EPA's RRP rule requires certified firms and trained crews on any of that work, and the site says so plainly instead of making a homeowner ask.
What I put in writing

If this goes sideways, that's on me, not you.

  • You own everything. Your domain, your listings, your ad accounts, and your content live in your accounts, in your name. Your code, your data, and your phone number are yours by contract and transfer on request, and the continuity kit you get at go-live shows your next developer exactly how. Walk away whenever you want and you keep all of it.
  • Your site is live before the 14-day trial ends, or your first month is free. I don't need a quarter to build a website.
  • If something I built misses the scope we agreed to, I fix it at no extra charge, full stop. And every system gets its first 30 days of tuning included, measured against the goal we set together before I built it. You just answer your calls and send me your photos.
Questions painting companies ask

Most of my jobs are word of mouth. Do I really need a website?

A referral still passes through a search first. When a neighbor gives your name, the homeowner looks you up before calling, and what she finds either confirms the referral or quietly kills it. A site with recent photos and reviews is what a referral needs to close.

What does it cost, and when does the card get charged?

Run is $97 a month and Grow is $297 a month. Both start with a 14-day free trial, card on file, first charge on day 15. Cancel anytime, month to month. If your site isn't live before the trial ends, your first month is free.

I'm not EPA RRP certified. Is that a problem for the site?

It's not something I handle for you, but the site can say plainly whether you're certified for pre-1978 homes, since a lot of Waukesha County's housing stock qualifies. Being upfront about it is one less question a homeowner has to ask on the phone.

What happens to my leads in the off season?

Interior work carries the winter. Cabinets, trim, whole rooms. The site keeps that page separate from exterior painting so a homeowner searching in January finds an offer that fits the month, not a summer pitch.

Do I own the website and the domain?

Yes. The domain is registered in your name and the site is built for your business. If you ever leave, a $299 buyout takes the whole thing with you.

Why does exterior season matter so much to how this is built?

Because Wisconsin gives you roughly May through October to paint outside, every homeowner with a peeling exterior calls in the same few weeks of good weather. A missed call in that window doesn't come back around until next spring, so the site is built to answer fast right when it's busiest.
